Water and Sanitary Consolidation Update
Over the past two years the Boards of the Water District and Sanitary District have been meeting to discuss the benefits of consolidating the two Districts into one agency.
Financial Consulting Services (FCS) was hired to compile a very in depth study to truly analyze not only the financial benefits of consolidation but also the benefits of improving the already good customer service the two Districts provide. Although rates will not go down it is apparent the future rate increases will be slowed by the consolidation effort.
The FCS study shows that after the initial two years of transition the annual savings between the two Districts would be at least $400,000 per year. There is strong potential for even higher than the annual savings that are purposely conservative.
At the November 9, 2015 joint Board meeting each Board voted to proceed with the consolidation study and proposed to place the issue before the customers for a vote in May, 2016.
The next joint meeting of the Board’s will be on February 8th, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. at the Oak Lodge Sanitary District office. You are encouraged to attend and make any comments you feel appropriate.
